Ben Stokes has been crowned sports personality of the year 2019. Second and third places went to F1 champ Lewis Hamilton and sprinter Dina Asher-Smith respectively.
The 28 year old is one of the best all-rounder cricketers of the modern era.
Ben was born in New Zealand. At the age of 12, his family moved to England. His cricket career began with club cricket in England and He played for various local teams.
He is a left-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler. He was man of the match as England won the World Cup for the first time with a dramatic super over victory against New Zealand at Lord’s this year. He also hit an unbeaten 135 in the one-wicket third Ashes Test triumph against Australia at Headingley.
His career has a number of ups and downs but this year has been brilliant for him. The 2019 world cup final match was one of the best and thrilling matches in cricket history. Stokes made a huge difference with his unbeaten 84 runs to tie the game. He then batted in the Super Over where he scored 8 runs 3 balls and gave 16 runs target to the New Zealand team.
